The Social Concerns Committee is sponsoring an author/speaker at this year’s Waupaca Book Festival, October 12 & 13. PETER GENIESSE , author of Illegal: NAFTA Refugee Forced to Flee, will speak on Saturday, October 13 at 10:00AM at Office Outfitters in downtown Waupaca.
For much of his life, Mr. Geniesse has advocated justice for the little guy, the poor, and the downtrodden. He spent 30 years at the Post Crescent in Appleton, Wisconsin where he sought to put his social justice interests in his work. As an editor he traveled on assignment to numerous Third World countries – Nicaragua, Cuba, Haiti, Vietnam, and India, among others – to tell the story of the poor and restless. His first book, Cuc: Flower of the Delta, is about the Vietnamese boat people who resettled in Wisconsin. His second book, Illegal: NAFTA Refugees Forced to Flee was spurred by his 50 years of chronicling Mexico in newspapers and magazines.
Mr. Geniesse will answer questions and have his books available for sale and signing after his talk. The Social Concerns Committee is excited to bring this nationally known author to Waupaca in order to fulfill its mission of promoting social justice issues and invites all parishioners to take advantage of the opportunity to hear his talk at the 2012 Waupaca Book Festival .
