Prayers Of The Faithful: 6th Sunday in Ordinary Time

Sixth Sunday of Ordinary Time

In today’s Gospel we are called to the altar of God … but first we are asked to observe the law of God in our hearts, by purifying our desires, calming our anger, and being reconciled to one another – to our families, to our work colleagues,  and to all we have contact with each day. Mindful of God’s word, we ask these things, with humble hearts.

For the Church – that all the baptized, washed in the waters of baptism and confirmed by the fire of the Spirit, may give witness to the Gospel of Life. We pray to the Lord.

For those in government – that all who are entrusted with authority in the community, nation, and world may seek the wisdom of God. We pray to the Lord.

For all married couples – that they may be a witness to the commitment and fidelity that is revealed by the Spirit and given life in the teachings of Jesus. We pray to the Lord.

For our parish community- as we approach the altar of God, may we be a people of the Word, and set aside anything that would separate us from love of neighbour. We pray to the Lord.

For those who have died – that those who have said ‘Yes’ to God in this life may now experience that which God has prepared for those who love him. We pray to the Lord.

And for all the people of God, for the intentions in our community prayer book and for____, the special intention of this Mass. We pray to the Lord.

Concluding Prayer:

All-seeing God, you alone judge rightly our inmost thoughts.  Teach us to observe your law from the heart, even as we keep it outwardly.  Purify our desires, calm every anger, and reconcile us to one another. Then will our worship at your altar render you perfect praise.  We make our prayer through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, One God for ever and ever…AMEN.
