Health and Wellness Monthly Tip

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, which is an
annual campaign to increase awareness of the disease.

While most people are aware of breast cancer, many
forget to take the steps to have a plan to detect the disease in the earliest stages and encourage others to do the same.

Breast cancer is the 2nd leading cause of death among
women, however, it can occur in men also. It is rare in men with about 2190 diagnosis a year. Even so, men should be aware.

Although, most people who develop breast cancer will not
be able to pinpoint one specific cause, scientists have learned much about risk factors that may indicate a stronger likelihood for cancer.

Some risk factors are controllable such as smoking, while others like genetics are not.

Other risk factors are the following:
Age
Race
Family history
Personal health habits and history
Early menstruation
Late menopause (after age 55)

There will be information books and leaflets for you to take on the table beneath the TV.
