John Michael Talbot Coming to Waupaca

John Michael Talbot is the Founder and General Minister of the Brothers and Sisters of Charity at Little Portion Hermitage. He is one of the founding fathers of Contemporary Christian Music and is recognized as Catholic music’s most popular artist with 53 albums, a respected author with 24 books, a highly-sought retreat master and inspirational speaker. Talbot leads his active concert and teaching ministry from his home at Little Portion Hermitage Monastery. It is the only community in North America with canonical status from the Catholic Church. It is Talbot’s music career that acts as one of its main benefactors.

At age 18 Talbot was performing across theU.S.with the rock group Mason Profitt when “suddenly the rock star life seemed empty and sad.” Talbot left Mason Proffit and began a spiritual journey. He studied all Christian denominations and found that Catholicism spoke to his heart. He started to use his musical talent to express his faith. In 1982 he won the Dove Award for Worship Album of the Year. In 1986 he became one of only nine artists to receive the President’s Merit Award from the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences and in 1988 he was named the No. 1 Christian Artist by Billboard magazine.

Talbot believes there is a powerful need to reach out right now to all ages and to show them that there is a better way. Father Brian Belongia felt that he was very fortunate to get Talbot to perform at St. Mary Magdalene. He is the composer of many of the hymns that we sing in the Catholic Church today. Talbot will be performing at St. Mary Magdalene Church in Waupaca, October 21, 2011 at 7:00 pm.  There is no cost to the concert, but a “Love Offering” is requested.
