Bishop’s Appeal 2011

The Bishop’s Appeal 2011 has launched in parishes across the Diocese. This important campaign supports the ministries and services of the Diocese of Green Bay such as Catholic Charities, the diocesan Education Department, Stewardship and Pastoral Services and other ministries that bring the Word of God to the people of Northeastern Wisconsin.

“I continue to be amazed by the breadth of ministries and services that reach thousands of families in search of Jesus’ love. A large part of this work is funded by the Bishop’s Appeal. In fact, many of these ministries would not be possible without your support of the Appeal,” said Bishop David Ricken, Bishop of Green Bay.

Your gift helps serve over 45,000 people who are in desperate need of counseling and other outreach services through Catholic Charities.

Your gift helps provide opportunities for people to embrace and share their faith through the ministries of Evangelization and Worship.

Your gift provides Catholic schools and parish religious education programs with the necessary tools to share our Catholic teachings with people of all ages, through the work of the Education Department. Each year more than 40,000 children attend Catholic schools or parish religious education programs.

What is the Bishop’s Appeal?

The Bishop’s Appeal is a stewardship opportunity for each of us to reach out to thousands of people in search of Jesus’ love.  Each gift given supports the ministries of the Diocese of Green Bay which serves our communities, Catholic schools and parishes.  Your gift truly helps bring the heart and hands of Christ to our children, young adults, families and neighbors.  Thank you for making a gift to the Bishop’s Appeal.

Does the Bishop’s Appeal pay the Bishop’s salary?

The Bishop’s Appeal is an annual campaign that supports the ministries of the Diocese.  It does not pay for the Bishop’s salary.  The Appeal does provide support to diocesan ministries which reach out to thousands of people each year.  Some of the ministries the Bishop’s Appeal supports are Catholic Charities, the diocesan Education Department, the Compass and the Commissioned Ministry program to name a few.  The Bishop’s Appeal is a wonderful way to share our faith with people who are interested in learning more about faith or are in need of counseling and other services from Catholic Charities.

It is our continuing pledge to you to use all the funds received during the 2011 Bishop’s Appeal to provide these services and meet the needs described on our web site at  www.CatholicFoundationgb.org.  Thank you for your generous support of the Appeal.

Has the Bishop’s Appeal ever been used to pay legal settlements?

No, the Bishop’s Appeal has never been used to pay legal settlements.  In fact, between 1950 and 2004 the Diocese has paid approximately $1,365,000 in legal settlements.  From this settlement $1,065,000 came from liability insurance and the other $300,000 came from diocesan investments.  Gifts to the Bishop’s Appeal have always been used to share the ministries and services of the Diocese of Green Bay with our parishes, Catholic schools and communities throughout northeastern Wisconsin.

About the Crozier Society

The Crozier Society offers you a special way to join your Bishop, supporting him as he guides our Diocese. As your Bishop’s special partner, you will have opportunities for closer involvement in the mission of the Catholic Church in Northeastern Wisconsin .

  • You will be invited to the annual Bishop’s Appeal Appreciation Mass and Luncheon
  • You will be invited to an annual Mass and reception with members of the Crozier society, hosted by Bishop David Ricken
  • You will receive:
    • The Little Books during Advent, Lent and Easter
