Religious Education News (End of Year 2010)

The Preschool & Kindergarten children enjoyed the Advent season. They made our annual Advent edible wreaths with donuts, pretzel sticks and marshmallows. They received an Advent activity calendar and sang prior to the 9:30 am Mass on the fourth Sunday of Advent.

The 1st – 6th grade students shared a portion of the story “The Journey to Christmas” every week. The final week in Advent focused on the poinsettia, its religious meaning and how it came to be a Christmas flower. They also created the “Rejoice” ornaments hung on our tree.

The second graders are preparing for the Sacrament of Reconciliation.

The 7th and 8th graders finished up the topic of  Who Am I by exploring how they are changing and growing, learning the difference between free will and freedom. And of course a Christmas pizza party.

The Freshmen and Sophomores continued classes on social justice and ended the Advent season with caroling at the Veteran’s Home.

The Juniors and Seniors came together in December for “Operation Exam-Time Care Packages”. Sixty packages were assembled, with individual letters by our students, and mailed out to our SMM college students.

On Christmas Eve, over forty of our youth, grades 1-12, came together and participated in our Christmas program during the 4:30 pm Mass. They acted, sang and told the Christmas story.

The Young Neighbors in Action poinsettia sale was a huge success in spite ot the blizzard and Mass cancellations. All 100 plants were sold the following weekend. The $600.00 profit will help to fund this summer’s trips to Winnebago and San Francisco in which 25 of our students will participate.
